How Upwork pays out

Upwork lets freelancers withdraw earnings in US dollars with its Direct to U.S. Bank (ACH) method, which sends funds to a US account number and routing number that accepts ACH. Upwork requires no US company and no SSN.

Set it up once

1

Open a Poplin account

From 214 countries, for the USD account, in minutes. You get USD account and routing numbers in your own name, no US company.

2

Add them in Upwork

In Upwork, open Account settings → Withdrawals, choose Add a method, set up Direct to U.S. Bank, and enter your Poplin account number and routing number.

3

Get paid

Every payout lands as dollars in a balance only you control — Poplin can’t spend, move, or freeze your balance.

Good to know: The account name must match your verified Upwork name, and Upwork holds a new withdrawal method for a short security period before its first use.

Why not just use a local bank?

Local bank / no US account

  • Converted to local currency at a marked-up rate
  • A US company or US bank needed, for most USD payouts
  • No dollar balance — money lands already converted

Get paid into Poplin

  • Paid in dollars — you convert when you choose
  • An identity check at signup — no US company, no US bank
  • A dollar balance in your own name and control

Getting paid by Upwork — FAQ

Setup

Can I add my Poplin account to Upwork?

Yes. Your Poplin USD account has its own account number and routing number, which you add in Upwork as a US bank (ACH) withdrawal method — exactly like any US bank account.

Eligibility

Do I need a US company or US bank to get paid by Upwork?

No. You can open a Poplin USD account in your own name from 214 countries with no US company and no US bank, then use it as your Upwork payout method.

Speed

How long do Upwork payouts take to arrive?

An ACH credit is available in your Poplin account the next business day or sooner once Upwork releases it — that speed is set by the ACH network, not Poplin. Before that, Upwork has its own processing time, which can run several business days, so its payout schedule is the timeline to check.

Cost

What does it cost to get paid from Upwork into Poplin?

There’s no fee to open or hold a Poplin account. Receiving is 0.5% for business and 1% for personal — the full schedule is on our pricing page. Upwork’s own withdrawal fees are separate.
